{1} We dog-sat over the holidays and it warmed my heart when I saw Peanut laying next to Maple (our friends’ dog) petting her gently. Then Peanut brought me to tears when she said, “I wish Maple was Lucie”, so matter-of-factly.
{2} As holiday-lazy as I’ve been feeling lately, Peanut & I kicked off the season with a girls skate date at the Embarcadero Ice Rink. Apparently, my skating skills aren’t good enough to give my daughter the confidence to let go of the wall. For the record, I did not fall…this time around.
{3} I finally gave in and turned on the Christmas radio station and they happened to play my top 3 three songs in a row! {1} O Holy Night (they, unfortunately, played Leann Rimes’ version) {2} Jingle Bell Rock {3} Last Christmas
{4} I’ve been looking into Elf on the Shelf – part holiday fun, part behavioral enforcer. Okay, TOTAL behavioral enforcer. I’m leaning towards getting it, but I fear that Peanut’s belief in Santa may be coming to an end. (Some of these pins are hilarious – these people have more time than me, however.)
{5} I think I’ve reached my turkey threshold – turkey soup, thanksgiving sandwiches, turkey tetrazzini – today. Hello compost bin!
{1} Training yesterday, yoga today, and a planned “run” tomorrow am – I will be SO ready for T-giving grub!
{2} “I follow sports, when I have the time” – Lenny Kravitz. I must have had a lot of time this past fall.
{3} These guys crack me up! How can you NOT love them?! (Zito’s line is golden.)
{4} The best quote from the movie premiere:
“(Benjamin) Bratt said someone outside had him pose for a picture, thinking he was Angel Pagan”
{5}
{1} Okay, okay, so I missed a day. Or two. Or several. In my defense, I was, and still am, in need of mucho sleep. So tired, that I made Ringo read me a book the other night.
{2} To add to my exhaustion, The Husband and I went out with friends last week: dinner here (had the fried gator…just like calamari) before seeing this guy. So effin’ funny.
{3} Then on Saturday, we had to wake up earlier than usual so that the kids could take part in a fashion show. Complete with runway, makeup, and clothes! To be honest, I think the kids enjoyed the pancakes we had afterwards the most.
{4} …and now one less thing to worry about – phew!
{5} Now, if I can just get past Thanksgiving. I’m in charge of appetizers – this year it’ll be Spinach, Bacon, and Onion Dip, Salmon Mousse, and Devils on Horseback.
{1} Was reading that after working hard, Tauruses reward themselves by getting lazy. Combine that with leftover Halloween candy and the ensuing holidays…that must mean that I’ve just been working REALLY hard!
{2} The world really is a small place. In San Francisco, it gets even smaller.
{3} While I love our CSA deliveries, and I’m all for the organic thing, I’m not too keen on the critters that hitch a ride on our vegetables. Three caterpillars to date.
{4} #PrivateSchoolProblems. Sigh.
{5} My boss still isn’t sold on adding culinary classes to my training plan.
{1} Is Mercury still in retrograde? Today was not as cluster*(#&-y as the weekend, but still it’s driving me nuts. I’m guessing it’s going to last through the week. Oh wait, it’s Monday.
{2} One day late, but, I salute all the veterans who have served our country, including my grandfather, my uncle, and now my cousin. Thank you for your sacrifice that, among other things, allows me to have this ill-maintained blog and say whatever the fuck I want to say.
{3} Ringo’s day care was closed today and luckily Peanut had school today – so only one child to deal with today…though it was trying to work from home with him, just watching him be himself without the influence of big sister was priceless.
{4} Is it really that bad that I know the expiration date of my credit card?
{5} I’ve only completed two things for Ringo’s application today – his photo and the family photo (Thank you GC!). Ugh.
Since my blogging comeback was nil to non-existent, I’m going to yet again, try my best and jot down five things about my day. Five things. How hard can that be? (Famous last words…)
{1} Today was the day after the LFSF annual fundraising gala. Money spent = money raised. One jagermeister shot too many. My world stopped spinning late this morning.
{2} Preschool application for Ringo is due this coming week. Am so not ready for this.
{3} In the process of cleaning up I found out that in the course of the year, Peanut shot up almost 4 inches! But she only gained two pounds.
{4} Alabama Shakes – Un concert a emporter…my favorites!
{5} Peanut has received her first overdue notice for a library book at school. I partially tore apart the house looking for this book. I’m convinced it’s NOT in the house – but who knows, she has a tendency to “spirit” things away.
Taken post-World Series win at AT&T park at the Bay Area Science Fair
Thanks to the savior that is TiVo (and the internets), I was able to watch the big game, abbreviated, and, of course, the much anticipated Super Bowl commercials.
(We weren’t able to watch the game, as we were tending to a sick Peanut – final diagnosis here.)
I don’t know about you, but, meh, I wasn’t too impressed overall – with the commercials, that is. The game must have been a real nail-biter, however.
There were a handful that I did garner a chuckle, even a tear or two (or many – blaming my postpartum state). Also, I don’t think that I have even seen so many commercials for Doritos. Ever.
Here are some of my picks…
Fresh off the Conan-Leno fiasco, Letterman cashed in on this chuckle-worthy commercial:
You can’t go wrong with a Golden Girl and Abe Vigoda:
Tugging at nostalgia with Sparky and Ellen Griswold:
The one Doritos commercial I did like:
What SF will be like in 10 years (yes, especially with the garbage inspectors):
And the commercial that made my eyes water (I’m such a sap…)
What is it French men and crazy stupid hobbies?!
This all started when I (partially) watched the movie, Man On Wire. I say partially, since I fell asleep before he began the walk between the towers.
Then I read this on HuffPost the other day.
Granted, it was to raise global warning awareness, but there’s got to be another saner way
C’est fou, indeed!
A few weeks ago, a dear friend of mine asked me to snap some photos for an advocacy training she was organizing.
She is a part of the staff of amazing women and men that work for an amazing group, Breast Cancer Fund. Their mission is to identify and advocate the elimination of environmental & preventable causes of breast cancer.
Though I was there to “photograph” the event, I learned a thing or two – which is always a good thing. I learned which plastics are “bad” (even though they are recyclable) and I’m starting to double check the labels on all our cosmetics – especially the ones Mads uses.
I know, I know, you’re probably thinking, I grew up without all these precautions, I turned out just fine. I’m sure you did. But, I can attest to the effects of hazardous chemicals on the human body.
So, I’m being more cautious about using plastic anything – which is difficult for me since I find joy in the versatility of plastic ziploc bags. (I use them for everything and anything!)
I’ve gone back to covering food with paper towels when reheating them in the microwave, rather than using the plastic cover. (I’m waiting to make my move to throw it out, S might be lost without it.)
I am definitely not reusing the plastic water bottles – either recycling them as soon as I am finished or I depend on my handy dandy camelbak BPA-free water bottle.
Lastly, I’ve started to look up all the cosmetics we use in the cosmetic safety database and making notes on what and what not to buy next time I’m at the store.
And of course, I had to take photos of the food:
Simply amazing!

And the inaugural speech, courtesy of MSNBC:
Did anyone catch his reference to 1 Corinthians? (My college friends, should know this one! Wink, wink.)
What a morning it’s been!
Sadly, when asked the question, where were you when Obama took the oath of office? I have the very unglamorous answer of: in my car, driving to work on Page Mill Road (while blotting away tears – hey, it’s an emotional day!), only to have the car get schizo on me so that I missed most of the inaugural (what strange looking word, now that I type it) speech.
But honestly, I’m feeling very hopeful for the next 4 years – are you?
