Random bits of life

So, Tuesday with Mads in tow, we headed down to the Farmer’s Market at the Ferry Building and I picked up these beautiful dahlias

Dahlia

Then yesterday, our friend Jonathan sent us this cute arrangement…

Fleurt

Yup, S & I definitely have a poo factory on our hands. I’ll spare y’all the nasty details, but it is beyond me how babies can be (relatively) comfortable sitting in a dirty diaper. I know I’m putting these diapers on correctly, how come they leak from time to time? I had a little conversation with my cousin about this and all one can do really is just laugh about it. S wasn’t amused when I told him that my cousin had to cut the onesie off her baby it was that nasty. I think it’s pretty funny actually. 🙂

All’s well

Last Friday was Mads’ 1 month check-up…as of that Friday she was 8 pounds 12 ounces and 22 inches long. (I’ll get to posting the Mads-Lucie comparison picture by the end of the week.) Yes, she’s definitely growing. She’s already outgrown some of her jammies and fits into a tee shirt that’s labeled 3-6mo (which is labeled incorrectly, I think, because after I washed the darn thing, it looked tiny enough for a preemie).

We haven’t been up to much…outings to the dog park with Lucie, the occasional trip to the grocery store, DayOne, downtown, farmers market, etc.

Over the weekend, the Darlings invited us all over for a delicious dinner and to check out their new home (beautiful digs, btw). Aunt Katie couldn’t help herself and bought Mads THE. MOST. CUTEST. HALLOWEEN. COSTUME. EVER. I’ll keep you in suspense for another week or so, but it is TOO CUTE! And you know it’s adorable since our husbands were just rolling their eyes when she tried it on.

Here’s the cupcake wearing her cute denim overalls

When I say decent, I mean 8-9 hours of uninterrupted sleep. None of these 2-3 hour naps in the afternoon, the 20 minute catnap, or even the 5 minutes of shuteye while breastfeeding. I want the sleep of yesteryear – but I guess that’ll happen…never. Actually, I’ve been managing with the chunks of sleep I’ve been getting. I suppose it could be worse, non?

I’m looking for Mango

This past Saturday was a landmark evening – S and I left Mads at home with grandma (and JC) for a SUSHI (yum!) dinner out. Yikes! I have to admit I was a tad bit apprehensive leaving my daughter (geez, My. Daughter. Can you believe that? I still can’t.) at home. Granted, we didn’t stray far for dinner, we didn’t linger at the restaurant either. It had been too long a time since we’ve been there, the sushi chefs didn’t recognize/remember us! Anyways, the mango sushi roll tasted so good. So. Good. The sake nigiri just melted in my mouth. And the Happy Together roll wasn’t too bad either – the strawberries and bananas took a getting used to, but it was quite tasty.

Schedule? What Schedule?

Mads is nearing her 1 month birthday – already?! I feel like I should have her more on a schedule, but really our days haven’t been that structured.

I’ve been writing this post for the past week…

Out and about

Like we did with Lucie, we’re taking Mads everywhere – to get her “socialized”. Starting from when she was 4 days old – yes, 4 days! – she’s been out and about. She’s been to Fort Funston and on her first visit there, was greeted by a Great Dane. She didn’t like that too much – heck, even Lucie doesn’t like it when a Great Dane greets her. The highlight of (last) week was Mads’ first trip downtown! Granted she slept in her stroller the whole time…

Meals on our friend’s wheels

Lifesavers for S & I have been the meals our friends and family have been bringing us. There are definitely moments where cooking dinner is the last thing on my mind (I haven’t even had lunch today!), especially those days S is at work – which is 4-5 days a week. We’re only in week #3 of meals and it’s greatly appreciated and like my friend Dani says, it really is one of the greatest ways to help out new parents.

Etc…

Yay – who’s excited for the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy? I am!

A few good things about NOT being pregnant anymore (besides the obvious):

1. Dean and Deluca Espresso never tasted soooooo good.

2. 20 pound weight loss in 12 days. Need I say more.

3. The kindness and thoughtfulness of neighbors – Madison has received gifts from 2 of our neighbors!

4. Like the coffee, catnaps never felt so….restful.

5. The sleepless nights are worth it when your little girl looks up at you at 3am and laughs / smiles / winks. It may be gas, but I’ll take what I can get.

I apologize for the lack of posting. By the time I recuperate from a feeding and take care of things around the house, it’s time for another feeding. Plus, I don’t want to bore y’all with the mundane details of my life right now: laundry, poopy diapers, poopy leaky diapers, poopy leaky diapers that leaked out onto the baby papasan. Yah, pretty nasty. I can’t imagine how it’ll be once she’s on solid foods. Blech.
