Random bits of life

Not too much…S + I enjoyed a quiet, no-frills President’s Weekend at home. With the weather that passed through last weekend, who could blame us? Even the weather guy on KFOG said those who were staying put were the smart ones. I’ve had my share of driving up to Tahoe in the middle of mad winter storms. (Something about EricG and “technical” driving; torturing JC by making him listen to Metallica; and finally arriving at the cabin at 4am!)

We enjoyed a delish dinner at our favorite Chinese resto in Chinatown – definitely NOT the greasy spoon restos you would expect. Afterwards, we met one of Adam and Sylvain’s coworkers, his wife and their friends from France for drinks at Lucky 13. In all my bar outings, it was my first time to the Lucky 13. Not too surprising – goth and metal come to mind when you enter the Lucky 13.

Saturday, we had planned to go to the Chinatown street fair to be a part of the New Year hoopla, but the rain kept us inside.

Sunday, our friends from Sunnyvale made the trip to SF. Andy, to help Sylvain with installing / wiring the electrical harness in the Chevelle. Birgit, to educate me in the ways of rose pruning and a baking lesson for her. And, last but not least, Phil, their 7-year-old chocolate lab to play with Lucie all day. So while the boys, played around with the car, Birgit and I got a lot accomplished: pruned the backyard until the compost bin was full, baked a yummy lemon yogurt cake, took the doggies for a walk in the neighborhood and watched Vanity Fair. Lucie and Phil tired each other out, we all were able to enjoy our holiday Mondays.

Monday, after our, er, um, MY Ashlee Simpson sighting and lunch at Sushi Bune, we ventured to Niketown and tried on new runners. They actually have a treadmill in the store now, so that you can take your running shoes for a test run. Heh. (Yes, of course I took my shoes for a test run! For what they charge for these shoes, you’d better!) Now that I think about it, Niketown Chicago has a half-court to test basketball shoes. And really, the shoe really does matter. I was able to tackle 21 minutes on the treadmill after work Tuesday and no pain in the knees whatsoever.

This weekend we are off to San Diego to visit our friends G + L , KJ and T + N. There are talks about hitting Viejas…but we will see.

Sylvain and I were downtown yesterday en route to a sushi restaurant for lunch. We were walking up Geary, crossing Powell Street and right in front of Petite Sophisticate, Ashlee Simpson walks by with her posse! (Sylvain completely missed seeing her! He just noticed how *big* her bodyguard was!) She was probably en route to Neiman’s or something…she’s seems tres petite (shorter than me at least) and her eyes are probably the first thing you notice.

The Grammys are this weekend…so I figured I’d share who I think some of the winners should be. Let’s see how close (or far) I’ll come to calling it…

Gong Xi Fa Cai (may you have wealth and prosper) everybody!

It’s the year of the Rooster!

You know how you always feel that there’s a Starbucks at every corner? That’s how S + I felt in London. (There were actually 2 Starbucks at Victoria Station, both within 6m of each other!)

What’s your Starbucks density where you live?

S + I have 69 Starbucks within a 5 mile radius. (Doesn’t help that San Francisco is just 49 square miles…or somewhere around that.)

As you can see, I’ve been playing around with the side bar content. :o) Lemme know what you think.
