I suppose it was okay, as far as spending the weekend with your spouse’s coworkers and their significant others/family with a sick toddler, who you had to take to the ER because her fever wasn’t going down and subject her to unpleasant temperature taking. Yah, okay considering.

The following weekend, our friend Alex arrived (for work, but was staying with us). The boys rented Harley’s that Sunday and went for an all day ride, while I had a lovely girls’ day out with Mads and my mom.

Mr. Loyd’s 2nd period Biology honor class

…was where I was all of last week. Under recommendation of my manager, I signed up for a Bioscience Essentials for Industry Professionals course through UC Berkeley Extension. I was looking forward to being out of the office and spending a week downtown.

The first day of the course was pretty straightforward, basics of Biology, Chemistry and Physics covered. Then, getting into organic chemistry, molecular biology, molecular chemistry, genetics…all reminiscent of sophomore year when I had to lug around the 50 pound book for class. If I have serious back issues, it all started there. By the end of the 2nd day, I was ready to cry. The subject matter had swiftly gone WAY over my head. Things took a turn for the better on day 4, when immunology, auto-immune diseases, cancer and AIDS were covered. Despite it being the last day of the course, Friday morning was the most depressing. Topics covered were: Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, and Alzheimer’s – talk about a doozy of a morning.

Pink is the new Orange

One thing I like about WFM is that they sample the fruits they are selling. A few weeks ago, I came across the Cara Cara Orange. Yum! It was juicy and sweet and…duh…citrus-y. The little sticker described them as a “pink navel”. The flesh isn’t orange, but isn’t red like Blood Oranges, it’s in between. Anyways, I could eat them all day, if I could. Well, at least to offset the box of Tagalongs I devoured last week. D’oh!

Maybe I’m Amazed

It just amazes me how much Mads understands these days! I can ask her to get her shoes and she can get them and bring them to me, she’ll even try to put them on herself. Same with her jacket. She’s been eating more and more with fork and is definitely one of the carniverous type – steak, ham, sausages, hot dogs, this little girl eats it all. Still partial to mac & cheese, she won’t eat pasta shapes that are different. Well, you win some, you lose some. A recent win, spinach. As in spinach quiche.
