Snazzy and Geisha are my uncles’ cats. I want to say that they are Persians, but don’t look like Persians. All I know is that they have long white fur that automatically attaches to all my black clothing.<\/p>\n
I am allergic to cats, but I was able to co-habitate with them this past weekend. Yes, S + I made our (almost) annual trek out to the windy city. We arrived Thursday afternoon and after we had settled in, we walked along Damen to grab a lite snack before dinner at Cafe DeLucca. Then, we had an overly filling dinner with my family Thursday night at Rushmore<\/a>.<\/p>\n Friday, S, my mom and I had a lite brunch at Toast then treated ourselves to mani and pedis at a new nail place that had opened down the street. After picking up his tux and making a pit stop at Best Buy (to buy a game for S’ new PSP), we headed out to Armitage street for window shopping. Though the Botkier bag<\/a> was calling my name, I could not justify the price. Plus, with my husband standing nearby – I find it a lot harder to spend money. ;o) As soon as we returned to home base, we were out again walking to the Blue Line to meet Nick for afterwork drinks downtown. We chatted with him over a few beers at Rivers<\/a> – apparent to me a favorite after-work hot spot for the young urbanites that work downtown – yes, it was right on the river. After we left Nick, we wandered (but not too far) around Halsted street before yet another family dinner at Red Light<\/a>.<\/p>\n Saturday, the day of the AFC Gala, S & I spent the early afternoon on the Magnificent Mile. We started at Wow Bao<\/a> – stick with the bbq pork buns, no need to stray from the original. We ventured into the usual suspects: Victoria’s Secret, Banana Republic, Express for Men, Starbucks, Neiman Marcus, Coach, Borders and came out with a few pressies for me<\/a> and for others. (S couldn’t find any sunglasses or clothes that caught his fancy.)<\/p>\n So, the AFC Gala, if paying the large amount for the dinner isn’t fundraiser enough, there’s also silent auctions going on. We placed bids on a sterling silver Tiffany bracelet, a painting, and a trip to Puerto Rico. We lost all of them, sadly. Perhaps next time. The entertainment this year were The Pointer Sisters<\/a> – how fun was that?! (Well, just don’t ask S – he doesn’t relate to ’80s pop so well.) :op<\/p>\n Sunday, we spent the bulk of the day with Nick, Brenda and Collin<\/a>, their 3-year old son. We walked the promenade at Navy Pier<\/a>, ate lunch at Charlie’s and watched Collin hold on for dear life whilst riding the carrousel. We then headed to Millennium Park<\/a> to get feet wet and snack on ice cream. I was quite impressed with Collin as he was able to name most, if not all, of the dinosaurs in his bag. We’re not talking simply Stegosaurus, T-Rex and Brontosaurus – he was calling out some that I’d never heard of! He’s quite the singer too! This land is my land, this land is your land…was the choice of the day.<\/p>\n Sunday night, I prepared a Mother’s Day dinner feast: Roasted Pork Loin with a fig and port sauce, roasted potatoes with rosemary and garlic, green beans and creme brulee for dessert.<\/p>\n
