{"id":1292,"date":"2010-06-09T20:52:11","date_gmt":"2010-06-10T04:52:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.kellybeanz.com\/?p=1292"},"modified":"2010-06-23T12:51:49","modified_gmt":"2010-06-23T20:51:49","slug":"weighty-wednesday-en-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.kellybeanz.com\/?p=1292","title":{"rendered":"Weighty Wednesday: En Route"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend D, who had had kidlet #2 about 7 months prior to Ringo&#8217;s birthday, told me that, amongst other things, the second time around she felt more motivated to get back to her pre-pregnancy shape.<\/p>\n<p>So true.<\/p>\n<p>I was so eager to start working out, or at least do more than neighborhood\/dog park walks, my 6 week postpartum appointment couldn&#8217;t come soon enough.<\/p>\n<p>It was around then (6 weeks post&#8230;) when I re-discovered the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.c25k.com\/\">c25k<\/a> running program. A 9-week program that&#8217;s designed to get one running 5k (or 30 minutes) in 9 weeks. I had tried to follow it before, but thanks to the iPhone app, I don&#8217;t need to keep looking at my watch, while trying to remember if I was supposed to walk for 3 minutes or run for 8.<\/p>\n<p>If you follow me on <a href=\"http:\/\/twitter.com\/sfkellybeanz\">Twitter<\/a>, you know that I&#8217;m about 5 weeks into the program and holding my own.<\/p>\n<p>Though I&#8217;m really, very eager to get the poundage off and get back into a healthier shape, I gave myself an easy goal: run a 5k Thanksgiving weekend. To keep me motivated for this run, I&#8217;ve enlisted The Husband and Da Brah to run it with me.<\/p>\n<p>The latest running workout was&#8230;daunting, to say the least. After weeks of alternating between running and walking, time came to run for 20 minutes&#8230;straight. For some reason, I thought I wasn&#8217;t ready for it, but I am happy to report that it really wasn&#8217;t so bad. Not bad at all. To keep me moving for 20 minutes, I focused on my posture, I focused on my breathing, I focused on my core (envisioning some sort of abdominal definition) and I focused on my motivation for all this fitness &#8211; Peanut and Ringo. I keep telling myself that if I take care of myself now, they won&#8217;t have to take as much care of me later on. Who knows if it&#8217;ll end up like that, but at least there is some truth to it.<\/p>\n<p>So this running thing is nice and all, but I also need to work on overall fitness as well. Luckily, soon after I returned to work, HR was announced a 10-week summer fitness program. HR had contracted with a personal trainer to come and&#8230;well, train. A little bit of everything: cardio, strength, balance. The best part of all this is that my company is reimbursing me 75% of the cost when I complete the program! (I have to attend at least 6 sessions to be qualify for reimbursement.) I&#8217;m two weeks into that program and it has already twice handed me my ass on a platter.<\/p>\n<p>The next session is tomorrow afternoon, so I expect to be completely sore on Friday.
